Salvatore Fioretti, aged 77, passed away on December 9, 2024, in Chicago, IL. Born on January 6, 1947 in San Fili, Italy, Salvatore was a man of many passions and talents, fluent in Italian, English and Spanish, and had an enduring love for music, good food and literature.
Salvatore's educational journey began at Melrose Park School, continued at Proviso East High School, and culminated with a degree from Western Illinois University. His career was as diverse as his interests; he owned a pizzeria during and after college, taught high school, and later ventured into the hospitality industry where he excelled in management. Salvatore also explored various other occupations throughout his life, enriching each with his unique touch and ingenuity.
A parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church during his childhood and early adult years, Salvatore continued his involvement there while raising his children including providing them a solid foundational education at the school. He was known as the gentler parent when his children were injured, for his love for his car and for his penchant for mixing chemicals for the best cleaning solution.
Surviving Salvatore are his children, Anna Fioretti and Frank Fioretti; grandchildren, Dylan Grosso and Michael, Anthony, and Angela Fioretti; sister, Rita (Allen) Westphal; brother, Frank (Judy) Fioretti; and former spouse, Mary Holcomb (Fioretti). He was preceded in death by older sisters, Maria and Rose.
A visitation will be held Monday, December 16, 2024 from 11:15 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1101 N. 23rd Ave., Melrose Park. Entombment will be private at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Salvatore's legacy is marked by his zest for life, his perpetual pursuit of knowledge, and his commitment to his family and community. He will be remembered as a gentle soul who nurtured those around him with knowledge, love, and his famous homemade dishes.
