Irene H. Friedman, nee Hochfelder, age 101, born in Czechoslovakia and longtime resident of the North Shore, passed away February 26, 2017. Beloved wife of the late George Friedman; loving mother of Andrea (Yoichiro) Ishikawa; devoted daughter of the late Fannie and Armin Hochfelder; cherished niece of the late Hermine Steiner and Seymour Ernie; dearest cousin of Lillian, Jeanne, Muriel and Sissy; and cherished friend of many. During the depression, Irene attended and graduated from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts and became an accomplished artist. After suspending her painting for fifty years, a renaissance with her art resumed in her 70’s. Irene’s talent can be found on the walls of numerous homes and businesses on the north shore. During her 40’s, Irene resolved to further her education and became a certified occupational therapy assistant. She worked at Maryhaven Nursing Home in Glenview for many years where she was adored by patients and coworkers alike. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 19th, 1:00 p.m. at Congregation Bene Shalom, 4435 W. Oakton St., Skokie. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Irene to Felines & Canines, P.O.
