Gloria C. Garza Alfeas, 79, longtime resident of Morris and formerly of Chicago, passed away April 16, 2021 with her daughters by her side. Beloved mother of Denise M. “Niecy” Sanchez, Peter T. “Todd” Sanchez and Antoinette M. “Nettie” (John) Trobl and mother-in-law of Cheri Falco; Cherished grandmother “grandmama” of Peter E. (Monica) Sanchez, Danielle M. Sanchez, Aubree Lyn (Dane) Mancuso-Surdoval, Ashton Marie (Jeff) D'Antonio, Theo (Chantal) Sanchez, Alyssa and Marissa Trobl; proud great grandmother of Gerardo Alvarez Jr., Peter N. Sanchez, Giovanni Alvarez, Giana Sanchez, Daniella Sanchez, Gianni Alvarez, Jaelyn Zamora, Jaelyn Sanchez, Mason Sanchez and Atticus J. D’Antonio; devoted daughter of the late Eugenio Garza and Micela and Guadalupe Martinez; dearest sister of John Grange, Victoria Corona, Evangelina Romero and the late Olalla Macias, Marilyn Joyner, Violeta Kordik, Janice Gayton, Thomas Grange, Delia Murray and Esmeralda Caldera; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews; friend of many.
Gloria found pleasure in reading books, watching movies, listening to all genres of music and dancing. The Chicago Bears were “her” football team and she not only cheered them on and off the field but wore their team colors of dark navy and orange proudly. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, puzzles, cooking and baking. She loved collecting and receiving gifts of bears and angels. She was known for her delicious chicken mole as well as her Spanish rice for dinners with her family. Gloria liked being involved in community activities wherever she lived and always made it a point to greet and meet her neighbors. She will be dearly missed by all who love her and will forever live on in their hearts.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8th at Immaculate Conception Church, 516 E. Jackson St., Morris. Following the Mass, family and friends will meet for a Graveside Service at 1:00 p.m. at the OFFICE of St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, 87th Street & Hamlin Avenue, Evergreen Park.
In accordance with local, state and national mandates, those entering the church are required to wear a face covering and physical distancing will be observed. There will be no congregating allowed and all guests will be checked in. Please arrive approximately 15 minutes in advance of the start of Mass to provide ample time for check in. To help manage the number of guests in attendance, we kindly request that you RSVP (see link below) if you will be attending the Mass. The family appreciates your sincere cooperation during these very challenging and difficult times. If you do not feel well, it is recommended that you stay home and rest.
