George Alfeas, 79, born in Riglia, Greece and longtime resident of Cicero, passed away October 10, 2020. Beloved son of the late Christos and Panagiota, nee Liarakos; loving brother of Reveka (the late Spyros) Basoukeas and Pete (the late Dolly) Alfeas; cherished grandpa aka "Papa George" of Peter E. (Monica) Sanchez, Danielle Sanchez, Aubree (Dane) Mancuso-Surdoval, Ashton (Jeff) D'Antonio, Theo (Chantal) Sanchez, Alyssa and Marissa Trobl; dearest uncle of Tony Basoukeas (Alain Gourronc), Chris Basoukeas (Paige Greve), Stella Basoukeas, Gina (Tony) Kalama and Christine Alfeas; dear great uncle, cousin and friend of many; adored by his extended family Denise Sanchez and Antoinette “Nettie” (John) Trobl.
George served in the US Army and he had a great love for horse racing. He enjoyed learning about all aspects of the world through travel and always was up to date on news and politics. He loved sharing stories of Greek Mythology with his grandchildren. He had a personality that could make anyone feel welcome. He loved to make others laugh and always had a joke prepared for any occasion. He was sharp and always up for a game of chess or sequence. He showed unconditional love to everyone he knew and left wonderful memories for all those who got a chance to know him. He will be remembered always for his kind heart, contagious laughter and storytelling ability. But mostly for being a wonderful grandpa aka " Papa George".
A visitation will be held Thursday, October 15 th, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Sourek Manor Funeral Home, 5645 W. 35th St., Cicero. Friends and family will meet at the Transfiguration Chapel in Elmwood Cemetery, 2905 Thatcher Ave., River Grove on Friday, October 16th for a Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. Graveside interment at Elmwood Cemetery to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to American Legion Post 96, 5820 W. 35th St., Cicero, IL 60804 would be appreciated.
