Evangelina G. Romero, nee Garza, age 79, passed away June 9, 2024 in Chicago, the same city she called home throughout her life. Affectionately known as Evie to her family and friends, she was always young at heart with a personality that touched the lives of all who were lucky enough to know her.
Evangelina was the beloved mother of Stevie Che and Gavino Romero; cherished grandmother of Alicia M. Castañuela, Evelyce M. Romero and Gavino Romero Jr. and great grandmother of Vera, Xyaura and Anuel; devoted daughter of the late Eugene Garza and Micaela and Guadalupe Martinez; dearest sister of Victoria Corona, John Grange and the late Olalla Macias, Marilyn Joyner, Violeta Kordik, Thomas Grange, Janice Gayton, Delia Murray, Esmeralda Caldera and Gloria Alfeas; fond aunt and great aunt of many nieces and nephews; and dear friend of many.
With an insatiable curiosity, Evangelina had a love for exploration. She found solace in the simple pleasures of walking everywhere, immersing herself in the beauty of her surroundings. Her adventurous nature led her to uncover wonders of the world around her, leaving a trail of cherished memories in her wake. Additionally, she found delight in immersing herself in the fantastical worlds of Sci-Fi movies, where she could escape reality and embark on thrilling adventures beyond imagination.
Amongst her proudest accomplishments was Evangelina's dedication to martial arts, a journey that saw her achieve the prestigious rank of double blackbelt. Her commitment and perseverance earned her numerous awards and trophies, showcasing not only her physical strength but also her indomitable spirit.
Evangelina will always be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, as well as her unwavering love for her feline friends. Throughout the years, she shared her home with many pet cats who brought her immense joy and companionship. Her passion for these furry creatures knew no bounds, and her dedication to their well-being was truly admirable.
In addition to her love for cats, Evangelina had a keen interest in puzzles. She found great satisfaction in solving complex puzzles, often spending hours immersed in this favorite pastime. Her sharp mind and determination shone brightly whenever she tackled a new puzzle.
Another talent that Evangelina possessed was her skill in drawing. With a stroke of a pencil or brush, she could bring to life vibrant and captivating artwork. Her creativity was truly a gift, and those who were fortunate enough to see her creations were always left in awe of her talent.
A visitation will be held Friday, June 14, 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Michael Coletta Sons Funeral Home, 544 W. 31st St., Chicago, where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Evergreen Park.
Evangelina will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of her surviving family and friends. May she rest in peace knowing that she brought light and joy to those around her during her time on earth.
