Elsie Gant

Elsie Jevota Gant, a beloved figure known for her vibrant personality, passed away on September 6, 2024, in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Born on September 1, 1954, Elsie was a lifelong resident of Chicago, where she made a significant impact both personally and professionally.

A proud graduate of Kelly High School, Elsie further pursued her education by taking college courses at Kennedy College. Throughout her career, she showcased versatility by holding various positions, spending many years in sales at Herman's Sporting Goods located in downtown Chicago. She also dedicated several years of her professional life as an administrative assistant at a mental health clinic and a student loan company. Elsie's contributions to her workplaces reflected her strong work ethic and commitment to service.

Elsie was not just defined by her career; she was known for her lively competitiveness and spirited demeanor, which left a lasting impression on those who knew her. Memories shared by friends and family highlight her high-spirited nature and brash talk, qualities that made her a memorable presence in any gathering.

While small in stature, Elsie's personality was anything but diminutive. She commanded attention and space with her vivaciousness and never shied away from a challenge. Elsie viewed herself as the protector of her family, a role she embraced with pride and responsibility, and her absence will be profoundly felt among those she cherished.

In her personal life, Elsie had an array of interests that brought her joy, including a deep love for family, music from her youth, and dancing, with a special fondness for stepping. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Ethel; her four sisters Lenora (Glen) Thornton, Sandra (the late John) Fisher, Margaret (James) Spearman, and Shelly Gant. She leaves to mourn, her nieces and nephews: Nina Nabors (Cynthia), Mikal Nabors, Eric Fisher, Cynthia (Keith) McBee, Melissa Fisher, and Airri Spearman, along with a host of great nieces and nephews.

Elsie leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She will be greatly missed.
