Charles E. Challans, affectionately known as "Chuck," passed away on March 7, 2025, at the age of 83 in New Lenox, Illinois. Beloved husband of the late Mary, nee Carping; loving father of Kathy (Rick) Stallkamp and Debra, Chuck (Deborah), Amanda (Nick Makara, fiancé) and Amber Challans; cherished grandfather and great grandfather of many; devoted son of the late Ralph and Gladys; dearest brother of Aetna Challans and the late Trudy Norman-Basile and Bill, Earl and Ralph Challans; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Born on May 5, 1941, in Decatur, Illinois, Chuck lived a life marked by hard work, determination, and a deep commitment to his family and community.
A dedicated electrical engineer, Chuck also ventured into entrepreneurship throughout his life, establishing several successful businesses including a laundromat and a technical support company. His contributions to his local community extended beyond his professional endeavors; he served as the Past Commissioner of the Homer Glen Fire Protection District, where he was greatly respected for his service.
Chuck was known for his hardworking, kind, and generous nature. He gave of himself without expectation, embodying a spirit of selflessness that touched many lives. His humor and loving disposition left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He was described as stubborn yet extremely determined, traits that defined his approach to both work and personal life.
Outside of his profession, Chuck embraced various hobbies and interests that reflected his love for the outdoors. He found great joy in gardening, especially his tomatoes, as well as fishing, grilling, and playing cards. Spending time with family was cherished, and he took pride in creating lasting memories with his loved ones. Chuck deeply loved his wife Mary, who was a significant part of his life. His family was his proudest accomplishment, and he dedicated his life to nurturing and supporting them.
Visitation for Chuck will be held on Sunday, March 16th, from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn, where a Funeral Service will be held to honor Chuck's life on Monday, March 17th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Beverly Cemetery in Blue Island.
In honoring his memory, those who knew Chuck will remember a man who embodied kindness, laughter, and an unwavering love for his family.
